Setup checklist
Set up QR guest requests in one sitting
Five steps from a new account to a request your team has resolved.
Updated October 4, 2026.
Setup is done when a real request has gone from a guest phone to your staff inbox and back to Done. Not when the signs are printed. This is the order ReferLift's own setup screen follows, and the order we suggest for any QR request tool.
Everything else, like Wi-Fi details, a logo, staff invitations, and alert preferences, can wait until the first request works.
The five steps
- 1
Create the property
Pick hotel or restaurant and type the name guests know. A phone number for guests is optional but recommended: the guest page shows a call button so nobody is stuck waiting on a screen.
- 2
Add the rooms or tables
Type a count (Table 1 to Table 20) or a range like 201-230. Bare numbers become Room 204 or Table 8, so the label on the staff inbox matches the sign. Each room or table gets its own private link.
- 3
Print the signs or write the NFC tags
Download the print kit PDF or the SVG files. The printed sign carries the QR code and the room or table name, not a web address. To use NFC, write the same link to a tag with any NFC writer app.
- 4
Send a test request
Open the guest page for one table or room on your own phone and tap a request. The setup screen watches the inbox and shows it arrive within a few seconds.
- 5
Answer it and resolve it
In the staff inbox press On it, then Done. Keep the test conversation open on your phone and watch the status change. When it says Done, setup is finished.
What to leave for later
Invite staff once the loop works. Hotels can let each staff member choose which request types alert them, so housekeeping is not woken for a wake-up call. Restaurants share one floor inbox; ReferLift does not assign tables to servers.
Browser alerts need the staff member's permission in their own browser. Turn them on from the inbox with Turn on alerts. Email alerts are a backup, not a replacement for someone watching the inbox during service.
Common setup mistakes
Printing before testing. A sign on the wrong table sends requests to the wrong place, so test one sign first and then print the rest.
Putting one code on every table. Each table or room needs its own code, or staff will not know where to walk.
Hiding the phone number. Some guests will not scan. Keep the desk or host phone visible for anything urgent.

Questions
Common questions
- How long does setup take?
- ReferLift has not published a timed setup. The five steps above need a phone, the room or table list, and access to a printer or NFC tags.
- Do guests need an app?
- No. The QR code or NFC tag opens a page in the phone browser.
- What does it cost after the trial?
- $49 per hotel property or $39 per restaurant location each month after 15 days free. A card is required to start, and you can cancel anytime.
