QR ordering for restaurants

QR code menu ordering from the table. No app for guests.

Updated Oct 2026.

QR ordering for restaurants lets a guest scan a code on the table and order from the menu in the phone browser. ReferLift sends the paid ticket to staff with that table attached. Guests do not install an app. The restaurant is charged on its own Stripe account.

How does QR code menu ordering work?

  1. 1

Put one code on each table

Create the location and add the tables. Print a tent card, or write the same link to an NFC tag. The code already names that table.

  2. 2

The guest orders in the browser

A scan opens the menu. The guest builds the order and pays with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a card. There is no download.

  3. 3

    Staff get a table ticket

The paid order lands in the staff inbox with the table on it. The same inbox opens on a phone, so a server on the floor can see it.

  4. 4

Service requests stay on the same page

Water, a server, napkins, or the bill use the same code. The bill button asks for the check. Ordering and paying is the Stripe step.

How does ReferLift compare with a paper menu or a full POS?

ReferLiftPaper menu or full POS
Guest appNo. The phone browser opens the table.A paper menu needs none. A POS app often does.
Who gets paidThe restaurant's own Stripe account.A POS may hold the card on its own merchant account.
Table attachedThe code is already that table.A paper menu does not name the table for the kitchen.
What it replacesThe walk to discover the order. Not the register.A full POS replaces the register. ReferLift does not.

Who is QR code menu ordering for?

It fits a full-service dining room that wants orders and small requests without a guest app. It is a poor fit if you need a reservation book, a seating map, or a replacement for the register. ReferLift is not a point-of-sale system.

Questions

Common questions

What is QR ordering for restaurants?
A guest scans a code at the table, orders from the menu in the phone browser, and pays the restaurant. Staff receive the ticket with that table attached. No app for guests.
What is QR code menu ordering?
The menu lives on the page the QR code opens. Photos, prices, and the cart are in the browser. The guest does not install anything.
Do guests need an app?
No. The camera or an NFC tap opens the phone browser. That is the whole guest install.
Where does the money go?
Card payments are direct charges on the restaurant's own Stripe account. ReferLift adds 0.5% of food and tax. Tips are excluded, and the guest does not see that fee.
How much does it cost?
The restaurant plan is $79 per location per month after a 15-day free trial. A card is required to start. The price is not per table.
Is this a POS?
No. The paid ticket appears in the staff inbox. Your register can stay. ReferLift does not replace a point-of-sale system.
Can the same code ask for a server?
Yes. Water, a server, napkins, and the bill are service requests on the same page. The bill button asks staff to bring the check.
